On June 23, British voters will decide on whether to leave the European Union, 43 years after joining. A British author living in Switzerland explains Brexit to a Swiss audience in a new inteational affairs programme on Swiss public television, SRF.
Each month #SRFglobal analyses and explains a major inteational issue. This month, it’s the divisive question of Brexit. #SRFglobal is hosted by Florian Inhauser, SRF’s correspondent in Britain from 2003 to 2007.
Inhauser and SRF correspondents in London and Brussels will discuss to what extent Britain’s “island mentality” is a factor (although it actually shares a 500km land border with the EU, in the form of Ireland). They will also look at how the EU is dealing with increasingly loud calls for more sovereignty from Britain and other member states.
The studio guest will be Diccon Bewes, a British author who has lived in Be since 2005. His book Swiss Watching offered a “light-hearted but informative” guide to Switzerland and sold well among expats as well as Swiss curious to see how they are perceived by foreigners.
Bewes, a member of swissinfo.ch’s public council, will explain the arguments and context of the debate to a Swiss public. The interview will be in English.
#SRFglobal appears online at 8pm on the first Tuesday of every month and at 11.25pm on the German-language chael, SRF1. SRF belong's to swissinfo.ch's parent company, the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation.
